Underfunding: The Impact in Our Community

Windsor and surrounding areas are feeling the effects of hospital underfunding as beds and services are closing. At the same time, promised long-term care beds are not materializing, and construction on the three new homes has not even begun. The Erie St. Clair Local Health Integration Network has actually ordered Altered Level of Care patients in hospital beds, transferred to for-profit, completely unregulated retirement homes. Home care services have been reduced, nursing homes are still not required to provide any measurable standard of care and hospital workers are facing lay-offs.

Hospital Cuts

Leamington Hospital is cutting 17 in-patient beds to balance their budget. They are among 50% of the hospitals in Ontario, cutting services and jobs to get rid of a deficit, created mainly because of planned underfunding from the MOHLTC. The loss of these beds will impact all area hospitals. Stand up to these cuts. Come to a Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday April 22, 09 at 7pm, Roma Club, 19 Seacliffe Drive E, Leamington. www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca
